Lauren + Kate // Hangar 30, Seattle
When I first met with Lauren and Kate, they stated that they were having bright, bold, and fun wedding. They wanted a giant party for their friends and family and they totally nailed it. Their wedding is one that I play back in my head - the happiness that constantly radiated from them; the laughter as Kate took Lauren's last name by surprise; the quiet moments by the water where they forgot that we were there and just soaked in the setting sun together. Lauren's father also surprised the couple by reuniting a college quartet to sing the nelyweds a song. I'm beyond thrilled that their Hangar 30 wedding at Magnuson Park is featured in Seattle Bride's Fall / Winter 2017 Issue!
Here is what Kate had to say:
"We used touches of bright color in every element of our wedding to convey our joy. A bright blue Seattle summer sky set the tone as we got married in an open-air amphitheater in front of a gorgeous community garden, and Lauren wowed our guests with her gorgeous, flowing, chartreuse-yellow skirt and bright flower crown. We’d transformed an adjacent World War II era airplane hangar for our reception, in a nod to Lauren’s family’s deep ties to aviation and out of reverence for our grandfathers who served in World War II. We wanted the raw and industrial beauty of the hangar to shine through, so we left the tall white walls and metal rafters exposed, but we added a few understated touches, like lights strung from the ceiling, coral-colored tablecloths with gold place settings, and hand-lettered place cards featuring Lauren’s gorgeous calligraphy. In the evening, we rolled open the enormous doors of the hangar to let in the beautiful breezes and light from the late summer sunset, and after dark we danced to throwback music from when we first met in college, 10 years prior and across the country in Boston. Back then, long before the Supreme Court ruled in favor of marriage equality, we never could have imagined we’d have a wedding like this. The night ended late with our friends and family encircling us for a sing-along version of “Total Eclipse of the Heart.”
Be sure to check out Lauren's calligraphy work at Good Shelia. Shout out to Katie DeLorme for second shooting this monster party with me!
